Hi Nassos,
The hats are part of the classical costumes the chanters wore during services at Hagia Sophia. This group is famous for re-creating authentic Byzantine musical presentations in original costumes. I have several fine CDs from them, but this is the first time I found them on youtube.

Thanks a lot, I had never heard about this before. In some icons you can see men wearing pointy hats like these. Are they the same?

Yes these are exactly the ones they use in their presentations.... They are trying to be as authentic as possible. Admittedly, you would not get me to wear one of these hats, not because they are Greek, but I could not fit through any door. never mind get into my car...... but then I can't chant in Greek either....
